Red Ribbon Week
Choose to be drug-free.
Red Ribbon
Week, an event that focuses on drug prevention and education for children,
is celebrated yearly in the BGM Elementary
School. A committee of teachers plans the
events for the week. The activities aim to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
The activities for this week included:
Monday:
Every student signed a banner pledging to live a drug-free lifestyle. Buttons were also given to each student to wear for the week. On the buttons were good character traits - showing how good character can help one maintain a drug-free life.

Tuesday:
Each student received a trick-or-treat bag with drug-free tips on the side. (Happy Halloween!)
Wednesday:
Erasers were handed out stating, "Drugs Erase Your Mind" as well as pretzels with drug-free tips on them. Each class makes a class quilt with individual quilt pieces stating each student's drug-free slogan. Quilts are hung outside of the classrooms.

Thursday:
An agent from the Des Moines Resident Office speaks to the students about the dangers of drugs and encourages them to live a drug-free life.
Friday:
"Sock-It-To-Drugs Day" - Students wear wacky, weird, or colorful mismatched socks to show they are drug-free.
